Five boys that fart ...

I was never allowed to say the word fart while I was growing up. If we were referring to passing gas, we would say "Who let a tooter?" Now that I'm older, this seems like a rule for the very proper and possibly even elite, which strikes me as odd since we had a live pig roaming free in our kitchen (true story). So I am going to say the word fart a lot in this post since I was deprived as a child.

Anyway, all of my boys (four that I birthed and one that I married) seem to be especially gross and gassy lately. Last night, Jake and Garrison both came in, jumped on my bed, farted in unison and laughed hysterically. I didn't see the humor in it. I'm not sure if I was more irritated with the smell or that they were disturbing my down time. They were quickly escorted out of my bedroom and the door was locked behind them.

So I have two questions.

1. Do all boys just fart all the time?

2. Were you allowed to say fart growing up?

P.S. Immediately after posting this, my twelve-year-old was heard around the entire house farting into a microphone. In no way, shape or form was this a tooter ... or windy. It was a fart. Sick.

Hilarious post! I hate farts, but my house is filled with farters. Jasper and David both fart all the time, and of course, so does Jackson (but he's forgiven). There is no stopping it, I've tried! And we were only allowed to say "windy" growing up. I don't know which is more ridiculous, "windy" or "tooter" ha ha.

We could only say "windy" as Michelle has already informed, and even with a house full of girls, we had a lot of "windys" happening.
I try to make the kids say "toot" but they also say "fart" occasionally.
Garrett toots all the time and laughs hysterically after each one. It's a boy thing.

Chad's ENTIRE family thinks its the funniest thing EVER...I'm not a fan...therefore they think it's even funnier while I'm around....so now my kids think its hilarious....EWWWW

I remember Aunt Marty only saying hyperphenate! The other word would have never been uttered from her mouth!

I so enjoy your posts! Boy, am I behind though:). I was never allowed to say fart growing up either and I tried o keep my kids from saying it so my mother wouldn't get mad,(FART is a 4 letter word to her:). but after they stayed at my sister in laws for a week (who is the mother of 7 boys!) Amy and Julie were calling all their "toots"..."Farts". I gave up after that and have quite the potty mouth now!
ps. MY boys are all gas passers as well!

Recently I shared with a group of friends that we could only say "windy" growing up. No one had heard that term before and all thought it to be hilarious, especially the guys. Everytime I hung out with these guys afterwards they would talk about windying and windys.
Growing up with all girls, there wasn't as much windying going on in our household as yours; however, our dad supplied plenty.

We were a family of 7 girls with one baby brother at the end.... It was "fluff" or "toot" only. Saying "fart" only earned us a mouth full of soap.

To this day, it just feels wrong to say it.

Must be cause Im still surrounded by the more delicate of the sexes.

Farting, and talking about farting was not banned in my home growing up, we just didn't do it. My brothers (who are apparently from outer space) still don't think it's funny. Clearly we are all freaks of nature.

Unfortunately my husband and all four sons and now, so sadly, my daughter all think it's the most hilarious thing ever. I really don't get it.

I do think you might as well go ahead and call it a fart though. I mean, really, windy? tooter? FLUFF? What's the point? It all smells the same.

Ick! Farts are so icky! I think we were allowed to say fart growing up...I think if I said "toot" in my house I would get made fun of haha.
And yes, all boys fart all the time. Justin has such horrible gas, it could seriously kill someone. True story - I chased him around our old apt once and sprayed his butt with air freshener cause I was so tired of our apt smelling like a stale fart. I then told him he had to go outside and pass his gas. He never did - he just laughed at me.

Hey Sister P:
My mother taught us to use “hyperphenate” only to reveal that she and her friends made up the word in college (Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Oh)…did Aunt Marty attend there?!

Interesting! My dad, who was born in 1903 and was a sea captain, used the word "hyperphenate" in polite company—of which there was seldom any. One of his favorite jokes hada young woman getting lost in a coal cellar and her boyfriend searching for her. She farts, and he says in his most gentlemanly manner, "Cough again darling, I'll find you."
