Got milk?

The other day, the topic of skim milk was brought up in my kitchen. This sent me and my little bro (Robby) down memory lane as we remembered the milk that we shared ... fresh from the cow (but refrigerated of course) ... cream still on top (or recently removed to make butter) ... mmmmmmmm.

Skim milk? I don't get it. When I was a poor young mother and I was almost out of milk, I would add water to stretch the gallon. THIS is skim milk, but people actually pay for it!

Years ago I talked myself into transitioning to 2%. However, yesterday morning we ran out. We can't have breakfast without milk at our house, so up to the corner Chevron we ran, and Garrison darted in to grab the last gallon of milk. As I saw him come out of the store carrying a gallon adorned with a red lid, I was secretly giddy.

They were all out of 2%. Thank heaven they were out of skim. All they had was WHOLE MILK. Again I say, mmmmmmmmmm.

I had almost forgotten how much I like a rich, white milk with my toast.

It's been a heavenly couple of days ~

Does anybody besides me even drink milk anymore?

I drink it with cookies, Kayla drinks it by the gallons, Lauren and Brantley rarely touch it, and your post will bring sweet memories to Clark having been raised on a dairy farm. He too loved nice, whole, raw milk from the huge milk tank straight from the cow. You two have more in common than I realized. Cheers!

*One little side note...Clark no longer drinks milk because it's just not the same as it was on the farm. :)

It's true. I go through 2-3 gallons of milk a week by myself. It can be a costly beverage of choice at times, but it's just hard to kick the habit. Nothing much tastes better than a cold glass of milk (and a couple of oreos to go with it). :)

I prefer skim! Call me crazy but whole milk is way too thick for me. My dad loves it though.

poor robby's bowels won't allow much milk in his diet but he always drinks gracie's whole lactaid milk. he says it tastes like candy. i'd rather add equal to my ceral than sweetend milk but i do love a good glass of milk with a pbnj. i'm still laughing about all your stories from growing up. you are hilarious.

I love milk. And I think Tyler loves milk only second to me ;) When we were dating, I mentioned I love milk and his reply was priceless: "I am sooo glad to here you say that." Ha! It was funny.

I LOOOVE drinking milk! Justin will only have it in his cereal, but could just stick a straw in the gallon and tote the gallon around with me all day long :)

I, too, love milk! But I like just about any kind of milk from whole all the way to powdered non-fat milk... re-hydrated, of course! Awww... those WERE the days of all the FREE milk you could drink, cream for homemade butter and cream biscuits, the fresh sweet butter milk left over after making the butter for pancakes AND the money we got by supplying milk to 5 or 6 other families! Back then, Tim & I often milked the cows together, he on one side and me on the other, and we would squirt the cats that were always hanging around... calling them by name as we hit them with a welcome, warm stream of milk... his SISTERS' names! The red cats were, of course, Kristi and Julie, the dark ones would be you, and the light colored ones would be Andrea. That was the only thing that made the process of milking the cows bearable. What fun times they were. Thanks for reminding me of a much different time. xox
